A Wiser Shoreditch Christmas.

Wiser are a fun and young creative and recruitment consultancy who wanted to throw a carefree, funky Christmas party.

They introduced us to First Option Studio in Shoreditch. A split level studio space ideal for this event. Happily First Option have since asked us to be on their list of event planners so if you like the look of the venue please get in touch.

The theme was an enchanted fairytale Christmas so we got down to work creating a magical space. Our prep and rig staff arrive during the morning to set everything up so that by the time the guests arrived everything was in place.

Lunch was Christmas traditional, obviously with a few Melissa Webb twists. e.g a starter of Gruyere and chive soufflé - delicious.

After eating, the party proper started with our staff kept very busy serving and keeping everything flowing nicely.

At 10pm munchies of cheese and ham toasties and cheesy chips were served just to make sure the party could keep going.

Ways to make your summer away day memorable.

Getting everyone out of the office can be tricky at the best of times but a summer away day can be one of the best ways to connect with staff and clients. Incorporating a bit of fun with business is also a good way of getting to know people away from the corporate world.

Obviously it makes sense to maximise attendance so if you arrange a coach to do the pick ups it’s much harder for people to drop out at the last minute than if they are making their own way to the venue. An added bonus is the journey can be an ideal way to get business discussions out if the way before the day starts.

You’re out of the office, you’re together so obviously you need to have some focus for your day. Is it just about meetings, or is it about activities? Either way breaks and refreshments are so important. We’re firm believers that fresh, tasty beautifully presented food can enhance anyone’s mood.

Alcohol is a consideration. Are you going to serve it at all, if so do you start at lunch, or wait until later in the day ? This is where good front of house staff come into their own especially if someone overindulges. Of course this depends on whether you want to keep things professional or if you’re happy for people to let their hair down a little. Either way, you need to offer good alcohol free options.

Equally, pretty bespoke, branded cocktails are always a winner. With your company’s logo on they can be a subtle reminder of who’s throwing the bash.

So that leaves the venue. In town or country we can help. Melissa Webb have relationships with a large number of spectacular locations.

So if we’ve given you food for thought get in touch. We can organise the venue, activities, transport, food and pretty much anything else you can think of.

Branding Your Event

When you organise an event of course you want everyone to turn up and have a wonderful time. But you also want them to notice who threw the bash and why. This is easier said than done and there’s a fine balance between forcing your brand/message down your guest’s throat and letting them leave with no idea about why you threw the event in the first place.
Of course you want them to enjoy themselves but you also want to ensure they leave having recieved your message.

It’s likely your marketing team will be involved and you’ll want to make sure the event gets noticed in the right way, including on social media. Getting all the relevant parties involved from the start ensures that all areas are covered.  Marketing, HR, Production.
Of course there are loads of ways to do this. Do you want the waiting staff wearing branded outfits? Should the brand include a hashtag or you might want to just go with some corporate colours.

Branded food can be naff but if you give your guests a well packaged treat when they leave, it can really help to get your message across and be a nice way to reinforce your brand. Maybe some personalised M and Ms or a branded cookie will give them something to think about on the way home. But our fave at the moment are these one portion cocktail bottles - delish, right on point and recyclable !!

Another consideration is your organisation’s values. If you’re a health food company you probably don’t want to be serving strong liquor or fried food. Equally if youre trying to sell a men’s rugby brand might want to go for something a little more masculine in your approach. It’s always worth remembering that in the 21st century people fit less and less into traditional boxes so you don’t want to patronise them.

Either way it should be a quality product. You don’t want the last thing you give them to literally leave a bad taste in the mouth.

Incorporating corporate colours with the food should be handled delicately. If your branding is black and orange you probably don’t want to base your food on those colours. Serving the food on branded corporate trays can be a more colourful way to spread your name.

Matthew Williamson and the Gown Gang

Colour, glamour and stunning dresses. We just knew this was going to be a great day. Matthew Williamson's glamorous Gown Gang headed up by digital strategist Rosanna Falconer arrived at Hedsor House ready for fun. The girls enjoyed a day of make-up, beautiful frocks, and Jimmy Choos, plus of course some delicious Melissa Webb treats including quails eggs topped with caviar and avocado toast.

Charlotte Tilbury's team did the makeup, then the girls put on Matthew's dresses and took in the house and its grounds, all captured on film by Moeez Ali.

You can read more about the Gown Gang on Matthew's blog or follow them on Instagram.

50 Ways to Have Fun !

The most fabulous fiftieth birthday party

Location - The Bush Theatre, London

Guests 150

Some parties are just fun to do from the get-go. And this was certainly one. Beautiful burlesque dancers, wonderful magicians, Cirque de Soleil acrobats and Jazzy B on the decks. Our team at Melissa Webb helped turn the Bush Theatre into a 1930's Berlin nightclub; glamorous, decadent and a little bit naughty. The birthday girl and her guests had a wonderful time, partying long into the night and if the Weimar Republic was still around it would certainly have fallen for the second time.

Guests were served a wonderful amuse bouche which was a lime sorbet together with frozen vodka at the table.

The main course was Osso Bucco with lemon risotto and steamed cavolo nero kale.

Then for pudding - Chocolate heaven. A ganache with chocolate mud, meringue, fresh raspberry, raspberry snap and whiskey hot chocolate to pour.

Add canapes, cocktails and the wonderful Bush Theatre, one of our favourite venues, and you have the recipe for a fantastic night.

Saga Circus

We were asked by Saga to arrange an end of year celebration for 3000 of their staff. A fun, youthful and vibrant place to work, the only brief was that they wanted to party!

The event was held at Saga's Folkestone HQ. We called in Green Room Events to work with us who quickly established the brief - a bohemian circus theme including dancers, jugglers, gypsy fortune tellers and trapeze artists. Several marquees were erected, with bars, chillout rooms, dance floors and entertainment spaces. The DJ's performed in a boxing ring in the middle of the dancefloor.

Food was kept simple and served at scale. Hot dogs, Thai chicken curry and beef bourguignon.

A fantastic party went on long into the night, although we take no responsibility for any sore heads the next day!

'Melissa has produced the food for various events ... She never disappoints. Her food is fabulous and she is creative, professional, organised and flexible. Melissa is a pleasure to work with and adds extra sparkle to any event. '
